Kia ora koutou,
It has been great to have our first full week at school! The students have settled in well and there is a really lovely feeling evident across the school. The students’ enthusiasm and the positive energy they bring to school each day feels really good and has made it a great start to the school year for everyone.
Thank you for taking the time to come along to our ‘Meet the Teacher Evening’ last night. It was wonderful to be able to come together, meeting new families and reconnecting with others. Please feel free to make contact with your child’s teacher by email or phoning the school office, with any questions or concerns that you may have.
Today we had our first House Colours Day. Kōwhai – yellow, Rimu – Green, Kāuri – Blue, Rātā -red flooded the school, representing respective Houses and helping to build a sense of House spirit across the classrooms.
A number of groups, team trials, activities and opportunities are now kicking off. We encourage all students to check the daily notices so that they know what is coming up. A direct link to the notices can also be found via our school app or on our website homepage. We encourage students to get involved, try out new things and discover new passions!
Yesterday we had the first Central Zone sport of the year. This was Boys Tennis and we had Ben and Harit represent MRI. They competed well and had a fantastic day. Well done!
We’d like to remind you that on Wednesday, school will be closing for Instruction from 12.30pm. This is to allow our teachers to attend a NZEI Te Riu Roa union meeting which they are legally entitled to attend. A permission slip to allow your child to leave school at 12.30pm on this day was sent home on Monday with your child. If you haven’t already returned this, please do so first thing next week or you can email your child’s teacher before Wednesday to give your permission. We will have a few non-union staff who will be able supervise students who must remain at school until 3pm.
As Covid continues to circulate in our community, we encourage you to continue to keep vigilent for monitoring your child for symptoms and testing them if they are unwell. We thank you for doing this.
Finally, please let us know if there is something that your child has achieved so that we can acknowledge them. We love to celebrate success!
