DISTANCE LEARNING

Distance Learning Plans will be put into place if and when a class or the school is required to go into Isolation or lockdown.  We would be in touch with parents of the affected students directly if there is a requirement to keep students at home and distance learning would then be implemented.

Learning at Home

You can help your child’s learning every day, by supporting and encouraging them and being excited by their learning.

It is good to talk to your child about what they are learning.  It also supports their learning to encourage your child to think about their opinions on different topics, such as current events,  and why they think that.  This will support the building of thinking skills that they are doing at school.

During the year there is opportunity for you and your child to meet with the teacher to set up learning goals and reflect on their progress.  These take place in term one and term three.  In term two and term four you will receive a written Report that highlights your child’s progress in their learning, as well as against their goals.  Your child’s reflection on their learning is an important part of this.

Please feel free to make contact with your child’s teacher at any stage throughout the year.

Homework

There’s a lot of debate about the value of homework, especially for primary school aged children. Some studies suggest that homework is not very useful for this age group, or has only a small benefit. However, it’s generally agreed that reading at home is very beneficial and it’s likely that your child will bring home books to read to you.

Your child may be given homework of no more than half an hour a night.  This may be to:

  • Read independently or with you.
  • Practise skills like maths and spelling
  • Have additional time at home to help complete assignments, finish work, research and revise current units of work

If there is a concern with your child having access to resources at home or time to complete tasks due to out of school activities and family commitments,  please speak with the class teacher in the first instance.

In the case of the school needing to provide a distance learning programme (such as in a COVID lockdowns) links to the classroom’s programmes will be made available through the website.
