Kia ora koutou,
This term is racing by with new activities and initiatives taking place all the time.
The week is now a hive of activity with chess teams, sports teams and academies, Barbershop, bands, orchestra, dance groups, culture group, Kapa Haka, language classes and enhancements underway. Students are encouraged to keep a close eye on the student notices for new groups and opportunities that they can take part in.
Auditions for our annual production are scheduled to take place next week. We are excited to perform ‘Man of Steel’, the story of Superman. This performance will be towards the end of Term Three. We are looking forward to seeing the great talent of our students shine!
Our first Whānau Hui was held recently. Thank you to the whānau who attended. We look forward to working with you.
Over the last few weeks, our Houses have made the walk up Puketāpapa/ Pukewīwī mountain as part of our local learning. It is incredible to look out from the top and see our gymnasium and playing fields clearly visible.

Next week is our Learning conversations, Talanoa Ako. This is an opportunity for you and your child to meet with their class teacher to identify goals for your child to work on and report back to you against. These are important meetings to be involved in and teachers are looking forward to learning more from you about your child and their strengths. You will also be able to meet with the Specialist Teachers and times are also available to meet with the ESOL and Maths Support teachers if your child works with them. Please book in a time for these meetings, if you have not already done so. By working together with you we can help your child to really get the most from their learning.
Learning has certainly changed a lot since most of us were at school. Today, students are encouraged to connect what they already know, think about new information in a deeper way and develop their own opinions that they can express, based on evidence. We seek to develop the skills and dispositions that students need to be a successful learner.
Congratulations to the student leaders who have recently been selected as Sports Captains, Art Monitors and Librarians for this year. We are appreciative of the great work and leadership that they demonstrate in their roles.
If you are visiting the school, can you please make sure that you sign in at the administration area first, and do not go directly to classrooms or into the playground. This is part of our school Health and Safety management. Thank you for your support with this.
Ko te Pae Tawhiti, Whaia kia Tatu, Ko te Pae Tata, Whakamaua kia Tina Reach for distant goals, so they seem close for you to grasp, But hold fast to those that are close to you, so you can attain them
Ngā mihi nui Kristen Walsham Principal – Tumuaki

Central Zone Swimming
Last week six of our students represented MRI at the Central Zone Swimming.
All our competitors gave it their all and represented MRI superbly.
A special mention goes to Ethan from Room 7, whose results saw him compete in today’s Interzone swimming competition. Great effort Ethan. You have done us proud.
Thanks to the parents who provided transport and supervision for this day.

Central Zone Softball Earlier this month we had both a Girls and a Boys softball team represent us at the Central Zone Softball competition.
Both teams had great days and played really well. The girls team came away with some great results, so they will now represent MRI at the Interzone competition taking place on Thursday this week. Good luck girls!

Lost Property. We have a large pile of lost property. We are unable to return these items to their owner as they are not named.
Please ensure all your child’s uniform has been clearly named. This allows us to return lost items straight back to it’s rightful owner.
If your child has misplaced any item of their uniform, they can come to the office and check with them if they have it. Any unclaimed items at the end of term will be repurposed into our 2nd hand uniform supplies or will be disposed of.
