Mt Roskill Intermediate Tennyson Centre was established in 1976 as a Physically Disabled Unit. It has a team of trained staff, teachers, therapists and support staff to cater for the individual needs of ORS(Ongoing Resourcing Scheme) funded students. For those who need it, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Therapy form part of the weekly timetable. There is an emphasis upon building self-confidence and independent work habits to promote life-long learning and successful citizenship. With this in mind, we focus on both the New Zealand Curriculum subject areas and key competencies. Key competencies are:
- Managing Self
- Using Language, Symbols and Text
- Participating and Contributing
- Relating to Others, and
- Thinking
The Centre has the flexibility to cater for a wide range of disabilities and special needs. Individual programmes enable all students to benefit academically, physically, socially and emotionally.
